Change of plans
Because of a combination of pollution and fog we put off our visit to the Great Wall until tomorrow. We went the Temple of the Heavenly Gate, a huge outdoor market, an old Beijing neighborhood and a quick visit to our neighbor, the Summer Palace.
Unless you live in Mexico City it is impossible to comprehend the pollution here. The long term health impact has to be egregious.
Our visit to an old...
If you are looking for me this afternoon, I’ll be at The Great Wall of China.
Just another day
when I visited Tian’anmen Square and the Forbidden City. As with everything in China scope and scale are amazing. Not sure what I was expecting but I got multiples of it. The Square is massive and really defines the scale of Beijing as no building can be taller than the People’s Hall (just like the Capital in DC.). The huge color painting of Mao dominates one side. It is replaced...
Checking in from Xian, China
home of the Terra Cotta soldiers, which we will see in the morning. Currently recovering from a dumpling feast. Pretty sure I’ll never do that again. It feels way worse than eating one too many slices of pizza.
Singapore
Well that is just about enough traveling for one day or maybe it was two days. At “Raffles Hotel” and it is beautiful. It has been around 120 years. Trying to figure out a time change strategy.
FYI TUMBLR
The Tumblr site does not render here in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong
Pre dawn at the airport and it is pouring. I am
on the look out for the “Tai Pan” Dirk Struan.
Probably won’t find him since he is a fictional character and even in fiction has been dead almost 200 years. Nevertheless, I have nothing else to do at the moment. I will recognize him by his green eyes.

Savant
My unique preternatural (or even supernatural) gift is that I dream in the language of the country where I am sleeping. I realize that this gift is hard for a third party to verify especially because I only speak English and I’m totally tone deaf. My gift is about to face a substantial challenge since I am going to Asia. I have never dreamed in a country which uses a totally different...

"Millennial Momentum"
If you are under 30 you should be aware of this new book. I just saw the authors interviewed on PBS Newshour and was impressed. You can probably catch the interview on the website. It was very encouraging and I hope it proves to be accurate.
So far, so good
Bills break the Patriots curse, Yanks beat Red Sox (BTW that old, washed up Derek Jeter is now hitting 300 for the season), the Giants beat the Eagles. Dolphins lost. Need the Raiders to hold on and beat the Jets.
Havre d Grace beat the boys handily. Sitting behind the owners. Lots of joy of victory mixed with tears.

You will feel a little better
If you go on PBS and watch their 2 segments on the Bard College prison project.

Just traded my beloved Blackberry for an iPhone. Struggling. The famous “app” store is really like Kmart. Looking for high quality apps among ocean of debris.
Left NYC by car around 3 p.m. When I crossed the Triborough Bridge into the Bronx my car thermometer showed the outside temperature at 104 degrees. 2 hours later when I arrived home in Millbrook the temperature was 68 degrees. As you can imagine there was a mega thunderstorm in between.
