Change of plans
Because of a combination of pollution and fog we put off our visit to the Great Wall until tomorrow. We went the Temple of the Heavenly Gate, a huge outdoor market, an old Beijing neighborhood and a quick visit to our neighbor, the Summer Palace.
Unless you live in Mexico City it is impossible to comprehend the pollution here. The long term health impact has to be egregious.
Our visit to an old Beijing neighborhood is one of the stranger things we’ve ever done. It was a total slum. Guide told us that virtually all of Beijing was that way before 1978 (end of Cultural Revolution).
TV is on. CNBC has a show on called “Can Capitalism Save Science.”. There is no sound. Censored?
